machine translation
What is Machine Translation?
Machine Translation (MT) is the use of computer software to translate words from one language into another. At its basic level, MT performs the simple replacement of words from one language with their equivalents in another. However, recent improvements have meant systems can learn the translations of terminology and even stylistic phrasing from already translated materials. MT has proved to be a useful tool for some, but the current systems are still unable to produce output of the same quality as a ‘real’ translator.
Cicero and Machine Translations
Cicero does not use MT to produce translations. However, if you have a translation created in this way we will be happy to edit it, using human translators, in order to produce a polished final document.
If you want a free online machine translation, we recommend you use Google Language Tools – this translates English into and from Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
It is good for a gist translation, but do NOT use machine translation for texts destined for third-party use, such as legal documents, technical manuals, marketing or any other important pieces of written communication.
