You may have noticed our strapline 'Your international business partner'.

Our job is to not only to produce good translations for our clients, and but also when required to give advice regarding the use of languages in international business.

If our clients believe there is a market for their product in the Far East but are unsure how to market it (which areas, which languages) we can advise. Clients sometimes approach us with enquiries such as 'Can you translate my business card into Chinese?' or 'We need this leaflet in Dutch and Flemish'. We could do what they ask and charge them for it, but we prefer to advise them on a better way of meeting their business objectives, and save them money and possible embarrassment. We may lose a sale in the short term, but our interest is in the long term and becoming our clients' 'international business partner'.

Cicero Translations' partners and senior staff have all lived and worked abroad:

• Nicholas Garthwaite (partner) has travelled extensively in his parallel telecoms consultancy business (www.cicerostrategy.com) within eastern, central and western Europe and also to Africa (Rwanda, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire), the Middle East (Jordan, Lebanon) and the Far East (Mongolia, Malaysia).
• Paul Mason (partner) has lived and worked in France, Brazil and Japan, and has travelled all over the world promoting Cicero Languages International (formerly part of the same firm as Cicero Translations). He is a former chairman of the South East England Exporters Association;
• Didier Philippart worked for many years in the oil and gas industries, and lived and worked in Germany from 1990 to 2000.
